Introduction:
This online workshop has been conducted under supervision of Professor Youssef Rashed and the CUFE-BE team. Protecting the archeological sites from earthquakes is a big problem because using traditional invasive techniques such as dampers can compromise the historical value or the aesthetics of the monuments thus the use of a non-invasive interventions such as vibrating barrier (ViBa) is the best solution. The design of optimized ViBa system is very complicated, in this report we discuss simplifying the design process by using Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to get the ViBa parameters based on the desired overall performance of the building.
In the Artificial Neural Network for ViBa optimization (Citadel), different types of neural networks are investigated to ViBa design. The FFANN (Feed Forward Artificial Neural Network) is chosen for its flexibility to simulate different types of input and output data formats. Training data obtained from the previous activity is used for the training of the ANN to emulate ViBa effect on new the citadel under EQ excitation. This task will be continued to optimize the design of the ViBa parameters.
